誤：Today is my grandfather’s sixty birthday.

正：Today is my grandfather’s sixtieth birthday.

漢語說“三十歲生日”“六十大壽”等，其實(shí)指的是過第30個生日，過第60個生日等，所以要用序數(shù)詞而不用基數(shù)詞。

二、忽略數(shù)詞與其他詞的搭配

數(shù)詞本身的用法并不復(fù)雜，但它們與其他詞搭配時往往有不少值得注意的地方，如數(shù)詞與other連用時，通常要將other放在數(shù)詞之后；但是，若有定冠詞修飾，則也可放在數(shù)詞之前。如：

他又買了兩本英語詞典。

誤：He’s bought other two English dictionaries.

正：He’s bought two other English dictionaries.

我不喜歡另外的那兩本書。

正：I don’t like the other two books.

正：I don’t like the two other books.

三、忽略dozen, score, hundred等的用法

dozen, score, hundred, thousand, million等詞的用法，既是同學(xué)們備考時的難點(diǎn)，同時也是高考英語的常考考點(diǎn)，具體用法如下：

1. hundred, thousand和million的用法

(1) 用單數(shù)：當(dāng)這些詞與具體數(shù)字連用時，習(xí)慣上用單數(shù)，而且也不后接介詞of。如：

He was prepared to pay two million. 他愿意支付200萬。

More than a hundred people were injured. 有一百多人受了傷。

但是，當(dāng)這些詞后面的名詞有了the, these, those等特指限定詞修飾時，或其后接的是us, them 這樣的人稱代詞時，則此時必須用介詞 of。如：

About three hundred of them have left there. 他們當(dāng)中約有300人離開了那兒。

(2) 用復(fù)數(shù)：當(dāng)這些詞不與具體數(shù)字連用，而是表示不確定的泛指數(shù)時，則不僅要要用復(fù)數(shù)，而且要后接介詞of，然后才能接名詞。如：

The sun was shining. Thousands of people were lying on the beach. 陽光燦爛，數(shù)以千計的人躺在海灘上。

A careless mistake cost the company millions of pounds. 一個粗心的錯誤使公司蒙受數(shù)百英鎊的損失。

2. dozen與score的用法

(1) 基本用法：dozen, score的用法與hundred, thousand等的用法相似。前面有基數(shù)詞時，只能用單數(shù)作定語；若表示“幾十”“許多”時，用復(fù)數(shù)加of。如：

I bought a dozen eggs and every one of them was bad. 我買了一打雞蛋，每個都是壞的。

I said it was a secret but she’s told dozens of people. 我說那是一個秘密，可她告訴了好幾十個人。

They received scores of letters about their TV programmes. 關(guān)于他們的電視節(jié)目，他們收到了大批來信。

(2) 接of的問題：上面提到，表示泛指意義的“許多”時，它們不僅要用復(fù)數(shù)，而且要接介詞of，方可后接名詞。但表示具體數(shù)量時，它們后面該不該加介詞of呢？原則是這樣的：dozen后不加，但score后可以加也可不加。如：

We need to borrow two dozen coffee cups for the party. 我們必須去借2打咖啡杯，以備宴會之用。

The Tuscan coastline has a score (of) popular resorts. 托斯卡納海岸線上有20個旅游勝地。

但是，當(dāng)這些詞后面的名詞有了the, these, those等特指限定詞修飾時，或其后接的是us, them 這樣的人稱代詞時，則此時必須用介詞 of。如：

I want three dozen of these. 這我要三打。
