“動詞+at”常見搭配

aim (…) at 瞄準，針對：

He aimed (his gun) at the target, fired and missed it. 他（用槍）瞄準目標開火，卻未打中。

When the teacher said that there was a lazy boy in the class, e was aiming at John. 當老師說班上有個不用功的孩子時，他是針對約翰說的。

arrive at 到達（較小地方），達成（協議、結論等）

Soon we arrived at the station. 我們很快就到了車站。

It took a long time to arrive at a conclusion. 花了很長時間才達成一個結論。

call at 拜訪（某人的家或某個地方）

I called at Mr James’ this afternoon. 今天下午我到詹姆斯先生家去拜訪了他。

Does the steamer call at Naples? 輪船在那不勒斯停靠嗎？

drive at 意指；想說；打算

What on earth are you driving at? 你究竟是什么意思？

I couldn’t make out what he was driving at. 我弄不清他是什么意思。

fire (…) at 向……開火（射擊）

We fired our guns at the enemy. 我們向敵人開炮。

They fired poisoned arrow at us. 他們朝我們放毒箭。

【注】有時用于引申義。如：

The lawyer fired questions at the witness. 律師向證人提出一連串的問題。

gaze at 凝視，注視

What are you gazing at? 你在凝視什么？

get at 到達；（伸手）拿到；理解；查明

I could not get at him for the crowd. 人群很擁擠，我沒法走近他。

glance at 看一眼，掃視

The old man glanced at the boy. 那老人看了男孩一眼。

glare at 怒視，瞪

They stood glaring at each other. 他倆站在那兒，憤怒地看著對方。

guess at 推測，猜測

Can you guess at the height of this tower? 你能猜出這座塔的高度嗎？

I’m surprised that he could guess at my age correctly. 我很驚訝他可以正確猜出我的年齡。

【注】這樣用時，其中的介詞at通常也可以省略。

knock at / on 敲（門、窗等）

Someone is knocking at the window. 有人在敲窗。

【注】有時用于引申義。如：

New graduates from high schools and colleges start knocking on employers’ doors. 剛從大中學校畢業的學生開始尋找就業門路。

laugh at 嘲笑，覺得……滑稽而笑起來

The children laughed at the clown. 小丑把孩子們逗得咯咯笑。

Don’t laugh at him. He can’t help the way he speaks. 別笑他，他實在改不掉那樣的說話方式。
