■ less and less

與more and more的意思相反，表示“越來越小”“越來越少”。如：

與more than意思相反，主要用法有：

1. 用于兩者比較，意為“比……少(小)”。如：

2. 指數量上“少于”“不足”。如：

It costs less than￡5. 這值不了5英鎊。

2. 表示輕微的否定，意為“不很”“并不是太”（主要見于美國英語中）。如：

The job was less than perfect. 這工作不十分理想。

1. 表示“不像(如)……”。如：

He is less honest than his brother. 他不如他哥哥聰明。

2. 表示“比……少”“不如……多”。如：

1. 表示“多達”“有……之多”，用于強調數量之多。如：

No less than a thousand people came. 來的人竟然有上千人之多。

He won no less than ￡5000 in the lottery. 他居然中了5000英鎊的獎券。

2. 表示“簡直”“與……沒差別”。如：

It is no less than robbery to ask for so much. 要求多么多，簡直跟搶劫沒兩樣。

Sports wears, no less than suits, are very much saleable. 運動服和西服套一樣，非常暢銷。

3. 表示“原來就是”“正是”。如(www.hz123456.com)：

He was no less than the mayor. 他原來就是市長。

主要用于強調同等性，意為“與……一樣”“不比……差”。如：

He is no less determined than you. 他的決心不亞于你。
