●2012高考英語山東卷第32題：

32. A number of high buildings have arisen ______ there was nothing a year ago but ruins.

A. when                B. where               C. before               D. until

答案為 B。where 引導地點狀語從句，意思是“在……的地方”。句意：很多高樓大廈出現在一年前只是廢墟的地方。

●1997高考英語【全國卷】第20題：

20. After the war, a new school building was put up ______ there had once been a theatre.

A. that                   B. where               C. which                D. when

答案為 B。where 引導地點狀語從句，用于修飾主句謂語動詞was put up。句意：戰爭結束后，在曾經有座劇院的地方新建了一所學校。

2004高考英語【天津卷】第35題：

35. A modern city has been set up in ______was a wasteland ten years ago.

A. what                 B. which                C. that                    D. where

答案為 D。what 引導賓語從句（用作介詞 in 的賓語）。what 在此相當于 the place that / which。注意本題與上面兩題有所不同：一是空格前有介詞in，二是空格直接跟的是動詞（說明從句缺主語）。
