關系代詞that與who

1. 關系代詞that與who互換的場合

關系代詞that與who均可指人，有時可互換。如：

The man that [who] stole your car has been arrested. 偷你汽車的人已經捕獲。

用當于all, everyone, everybody, no one, nobody和those后面引導定語從句時，通常用who，其實也可用that。如：

Everyone who [that] knew him liked him. 認得他的人都喜歡他。

Nobody who [that] watched the match will ever forget it. 看了這場比賽的人都不會忘記它。

2. 通常要用 that的場合：

①當先行詞是一個既指人又指物的并列詞組時，通常要用關系代詞that。如：

I made a speech on the men and things that I had seen abroad. 我就我在國外所見到的人和事作了報告。

定語從句that I had seen abroad在句中修飾the men and things，故只能用that來引導；如果用who來引導，顯然與被修飾的things不匹配。

②當先行詞是who時(為避免重復)，通常要用關系代詞that。如：

Who is the man (that) you were talking to? 剛才和你講話的人是誰?

③當關系代詞在定語從句中作表語時(可省略)，通常要用關系代詞that。如：

Tom is not the boy (that) he was. 湯姆這孩子已不是以前那個樣子了。
