It’s time…類虛擬語氣　　

It’s time…是英語中一個很有用的句式，其意為“是做某事的時候了”“該做某事了”，大家對 it’s time 后接不定式和 for 短語的句式應該比較熟悉吧：　　

It’s time to wake him up. 該叫醒他了。　　

It’s time for class. 是上課的時候了。　　

這里我們講的是 it’s time 后接從句的用法，而且這個從句習慣要用一般過去時，盡管它描述的是現在或將來的情況——這也是一種所謂的虛擬語氣。如：　　

It’s time we ordered dinner. 現在該叫菜了。　　

It’s time you washed those trousers. 你該洗洗那條褲子了。　　

I’m getting tired. It’s time we went home. 我累了，我們該回家了。　　

比較同義句：　　

It’s time for the children to go to bed. 孩子們該睡覺了。　　

＝It’s time the children went to bed. 孩子們該睡覺了。　　

另外，有時還可在名詞 time 前加上修飾語 high 表示強調。如：　　

It’s high time you bought a new car. 你早該買輛新車了。　　

有一點值得注意，就是動詞 be 在這類虛擬語氣中的用法與其他的虛擬語氣結構不同，前面我們講到動詞 be 在虛擬語氣句式中通常在該用 was 的時候而用 were，但是 it’s time 后的從句中，該用 was 的時候不能用 were 來代替。如：　　

大家都該上床睡覺了。　　

誤：It’s time everyone were in bed. 　　

正：It’s time everyone was in bed.
