thanks to “由于或因為某人（某事）”，通常用于好的方面，多用于表達正面意思，相當于感謝，有時可作“反語”。在句中作狀語和表語。引導的介詞短語可置于句首或句末。

The play succeeded thanks to your timely help. 由于你的及時幫助，那出戲才成功。（作狀語）

Thanks to your help, we were successful. 多虧了你的幫助，我們得以成功。（作狀語）

Thanks to the bad weather ,the match had been cancelled. 多虧這個倒霉天氣，挺好的比賽取消了。（反語）

It’s thanks to this opportunity that his talent wasn’t buried. 幸虧這次機會,才使得他的才華不至于埋沒。（作表語）

注意：small thanks to 一點也不感激

We were successful, but small thanks to you. 我們成功了，但一點也不感激你。

■as a result of

as a result of為短語介詞，后跟名詞、代詞等，意為“由于……的原因”相當于because of，可置于句首或句末； as a result為副詞用法，意為 “因此，結果” ,在句中需用逗號停頓。如：

The train was delayed as a result of the heavy rain. 由于大雨的緣故，火車晚點了。

He got up very late today. As a result, he missed the first bus. 他今天起晚了，結果沒趕上頭班車。

注意：in consequence of 與as a result of 同義，“由于……的緣故”，in consequence 與as a result 同義，“因此，結果”，在句中需用逗號停頓。如：

The flight was delayed in consequence of fog. 因為霧該航班誤點。

= It was foggy, and as a result (in consequence), the flight was delayed.
