介詞under的四條用法要點

1. 其基本義為“在……下”，既可用于具體的事物，如under the table（在桌下），under the tree（在樹下) 等，也可用于某些抽象名詞。如：

under [in] the circumstances 在這些情況下

under present conditions 在目前情況下

under sb’s leadership 在某人的領(lǐng)導下

under one’s direction 在某人的指導下

under the care of… 在……的照顧下

under one’s control 在某人的控制下

2. 有時英語雖然用了介詞 under, 但在漢語中卻并不譯為“在……下”。如：

He wore a vest under his jacket. 他在夾克里穿了件背心。

I was under the impression that he was honest, but in fact he was a thief. 我認為他很誠實，但實際上他是個賊。

3. 后接某些具有動作意義的名詞，表示“在……中”，并且這類結(jié)構(gòu)往往含有被動意義。如under consideration（在考慮中），under construction（在建設(shè)中），under trial（在訴訟中），under medical treatment（在治療中），under attack（受到襲擊），under study（在研究中），under review（在檢查中），under fire（在炮火中）等。比較：

The plan is now under discussion.=The plan is now being discussed. 計劃正在討論中。

The prisoner was still under examination.=The prisoner was still being examined. 囚犯仍在受審。

4. 在很多情況下漢語中“在……下”并不能用英語的 under 來套譯。如：

(1) 表示在某人的幫助下，一般用介詞 with。如：

He got back his wallet with the help of the police. 在警察的幫助下，他找回了自己的錢包。

(2) 表示在（太）陽光下，一般用介詞 in。如：(www.hz123456.com)

Don’t read in the sun. 不要在陽光下看書。

The cat likes to sit in the sun. 貓喜歡坐在陽光下（即曬太陽）。

若要強調(diào)“太陽直射”或“炎熱”，有時也用 under。如：

under the burning sun of midsummer 在盛夏的灼熱陽光下

成語 under the sun, 不是指在太陽下，而是指“天下”“世上”等。如：

It’s the best wine under the sun. 這是世上最好的酒。

(3) 表示借光做某事，一般用介詞by。如：

He worked by the light of a candle. 他在燭光下工作。
