used to的基本用法以及與would的區別

一、used to的基本用法

1. 其基本義為“過去常常”，注意以下用法：

(1) 一般不能與表示次數（如twice, three times等）或一段時間（如three months, five years等）的詞語連用，但可與always, often, sometimes, never等頻度副詞連用。如：

I never used to watch television. 我過去從不看電視。

He often used to work late in the evening. 他過去經常工作到深夜。

這樣用時，頻度副詞通常置于used 之前，但有時也可置于used之后。如：

I always used [used always] to be afraid of dogs. 我過去總是怕狗。

(2) 構成否定式和疑問式時有兩種形式：借助助動詞did（較口語化）或直接將used用作助動詞（較正式）。如：

He usedn’t [didn’t use] to come. 他過去不常來。

You used to go there, usedn’t [didn’t] you? 你過去常到那兒去，是嗎?

有時還可見到以下這種混合表達式，但不是很常用：

Did you use(d) to be a teacher? 你過去是當老師的嗎?

There used to be some trees in this field, use(d) n’t [didn’t] there? 這一片地曾有些樹，是嗎?

They didn’t use(d) to live here. 他們過去沒住在這兒。

二、used to與would的區別

(1) 兩者均可表示過去習慣性的動作，有時可互換。如：

When we were children we would [used to] go skating every winter. 我們小時候，每年冬天都去溜冰。

(2) 當要表示過去持續的狀態或表示過去與現在的對比（即“以前這樣，但現在不這樣了”）時，則要用used to。如：

Sex is no longer the taboo subject it used to be. 現在不再像過去那樣把性的問題視為禁區。

Women used to think they were on the shelf at 30. 過去女人一到30歲就認為是過了結婚年齡。

I used to cook on electricity, but I’ve switched to gas. 我過去用電煮飯，但現已換成用煤氣了。
