fight用法小議

1. 用作動詞，表示“與……斗爭（或戰斗）”，以下3類表達大致同義：

士兵們勇敢地同敵人作戰。

正：The soldiers fought the enemy bravely.

正：The soldiers fought with the enemy bravely.

正：The soldiers fought against the enemy bravely.

用于此義時，fight with 與 fight against 大致同義，但用后者語氣更強。但除此用法外，fight with 還有一些其他的用法，此時不能與 fight against 替換。如：

The children fought with snow-balls. 孩子們打雪戰。

England fought with France against Germany in World War I. 英國在第一次世界大戰與法國一起對德作戰。

比較：England fought with [against] France. 英國與法國作戰。

2. 表示“為……而奮斗、斗爭或戰斗等”，通常與介詞 for 連用或與不定式連用。如：

If you want the job you’ll have to fight for it. 你若想得到這份工作，你就得去爭取。

They were fighting for [to gain] their freedom. 他們（獲得）自由而斗爭。

有時接介詞 about, over 表示“為……而爭吵或相爭”。如：

The two dogs fought for [over, about] a bone. 這兩條狗為一根骨頭爭斗。

3. 用作名詞時，其后所接介詞與用作動詞時情形相似。如：

You will have to fight against difficulties. 你得和困難斗爭。

Two friends had a fight over money. 為了錢的事，兩個朋友吵起來了。

The fight for his release gathers momentum each day. 爭取使他獲釋的斗爭日益加強。
