動詞judge的三條搭配說明

1. 表示評價或判斷的依據，通常連接介詞 from 或 by。如：

You can’t judge a book by its cover. 不能憑封面判斷一本書（的好壞）。

A man should be judged by what he does, not what he says. 看人應該看他的行動而不是他的言論。

2. 用于 judging from [by]，意為“根據……來看”，在句中用作插入語，此時該短語無需與句子主語保持一致。如：

Judging from what you say, he ought to succeed. 根據你所說的，他應該會成功。

Judging from [by] his accent, he may be from the south. 聽他的口音，他可能是南方人。

以上結構有時也用 judge 的過去分詞或不定式形式，但不如以上用現在分詞的情形常見。如：

To judge from the evidence of the experts, the man was still alive at three o’clock. 從專家們提供的證據來判斷，這個人3點鐘還活著。

Judged by the ordinary standards, he was reliable. 用一般的標準來衡量，他是可信賴的。

3. 有時后接不定式的復合結構，但其中的不定式通常為 to be，其意為“判斷（認為）某人（某事）是”。如：

The scheme was judged to be unprofitable. 這項計劃被認為無利可圖。

They judged the distance to be about four miles. 他們估計距離大約為4英里。
