paper的可數性及相關短語

1. 表示“紙”，作為物質名詞，是不可數。如：

It is made of paper. 它是紙做的。

Give me a piece [sheet] of paper. 給我一張紙。

但表示“寫有字的紙”時，通常用復數形式。如：

His desk is always covered with papers. 他的辦公桌上老是堆滿寫著字的紙。

2. 表示“報紙”“文件”“試題”“論文”等，均為可數名詞。如：

I gave her a paper to read. 我給她一份報紙看。

The teacher was marking the papers. 教師在批改考卷。

I am reading a paper tomorrow. 我明天要讀一篇論文。

The manager has not signed the papers. 經理沒有在這些文件上簽字。

3. 表示“文件”“證件”，通常用復數形式。如：

Can I see your papers, please? 我可以看看你的證件嗎?

Your letter got buried under a pile of papers. 你的信壓在一堆文件下面了。

2. 漢語說的“紙巾”，說成英語是paper towel。如：

Use a paper towel to soak up the cooking oil. 用紙巾把食油吸干。

3. 用于習語on paper，有兩個意思，一是表示“寫在紙上”“以書面形式”，二是表示“據書面材料”“在理論上”“從道理上說”。如：

Before we buy anything, let’s plan the kitchen on paper. 咱們先在紙上畫出廚房的圖樣再買東西。
