比較級前如何使用定冠詞the

(1) 若比較級后接名詞或代詞，且需特指，則可在比較級前用the(當然若泛指則用不定冠詞)。如：

Which of them is the better choice? 他們誰是更合適的人選?

(2) 當要特指兩者中“較(更)…”時，比較級前通常要帶定冠詞，此時可視為比較級后省略了有關的名詞或代詞one。如：

Of the two possibilities, this is more likely than that. 兩個可能性中，后者比前者更可能。

(3) 在“the+比較級，the+比較級”這一結構中使用the，屬于習慣用法，其意為“越…越…”。如：

The more learned a man is, the more modest he usually is. 人愈有學問，往往愈是謙虛。

(4) 當比較級受by far 修飾且by far 置于其前時，比較級前要用the。如：

He’s by far the cleverer student. 他是個聰明得多的學生。

注：若by far用于比較級后，則不用the。
