1. 用作名詞，泛指一般意義的“幫助”，是不可數(shù)名詞。如：

He gave me a lot of help. 他給了我許多幫助。

It wasn’t (of) much help. 這并無多大幫助。

表示具體的有幫助的人或事物，是可數(shù)名詞。如：

You are a great help to me. 你對我?guī)椭�很大�?SPAN lang=EN-US>

Her advice is a great help. 她的建議大有益處。

2. 表示“在……的幫助下”，通常用介詞 with，不能按漢語意思用under。如：

I can read the French book with the help of a dictionary. 我可以借助字典閱讀這本法語書。

2. 用作動(dòng)詞，表示“幫助”，其后可接不定式或不定式的復(fù)合結(jié)構(gòu)作賓語，其中的不定式可以帶 to 也可以不帶 to。

I helped him (to) find his things. 我?guī)退�找東西。

Mother helped me (to) do my homework. 媽媽幫助我做家庭作業(yè)。

在被動(dòng)語態(tài)中，不定式要帶 to。如：

Millie was helped to overcome her fear of flying. 米利被幫助克服了她的飛行恐懼。

另外，當(dāng) help 之后接一個(gè)較長的名詞詞組作賓語，或當(dāng)其中的不定式所表示的動(dòng)作主語不直接參加時(shí)，不定式一般都要帶 to。如：

Help the little boys at the back of the hall to carry the chairs out. 請幫大廳后面那些小男孩把椅子搬出去。

The book helps (you) to speak English. 這本書有助于（你）說英語。

注意，help 后不能接動(dòng)名詞或動(dòng)名詞的復(fù)合結(jié)構(gòu)。如：

誤：He helped washing the car.

誤：I helped him [his] finding his things.

但是若在一定的句型中用了介詞，則可用動(dòng)名詞。如：

The book will help you in improving [= to improve] your English. 這本書會(huì)有助于提高你的英語水平。

3. 用于 help oneself (sb) (to sth), 表示請人吃東西或自己拿取某物。如：

Help yourself to the fruit. 吃點(diǎn)水果吧。

A：Can I have a drink? 我可以喝一杯嗎?

B：Help yourself. 自己倒吧。

You just help yourself as you walk.（在自動(dòng)售貨商店）你就邊走邊挑你所要的東西好了。

有時(shí)表示不經(jīng)允許擅自拿取或偷。如：

They broke into the shop and helped themselves to the stock. 他們闖入商店，隨心所欲地偷取商店的貨品。

4. 用于 can’t help doing，表示禁不住或情不自禁地做某事。如：

He couldn’t help crying when he heard the news. 他聽到這個(gè)消息時(shí)禁不住哭了。

We can’t help thinking he’s still alive. 我們總是認(rèn)為他還活著。

有時(shí)后接反身代詞或代詞 it。如：

She burst out laughing; she couldn’t help it [herself]. 她突然大笑起來，無法克制自己。

表示以上用法時(shí)，其中的動(dòng)名詞不能換成不定式，但若表示不能幫助做某事，則用不定式。如：

I’m too busy, and I really can’t help to do it. 我很忙，我真的不能幫忙做此事。

The medicine can’t help to get rid of your cold. 這藥不能幫你消除感冒。

5. 用于can’t help but，后接動(dòng)詞原形，意為“不得不”“不會(huì)不”“必須”等。如：

We can’t help but admire his courage. 我們不得不贊賞他的勇氣。

I can’t help but wonder what’s going to happen to us all. 我不得不問自己我們大家會(huì)出什么事兒。
