be probable習慣上不與不定式結構連用

■與 be possible 不一樣，be probable 通常不用于 It’s probable (for sb) to do sth句型。

他很可能會贏。

誤：It’s probable for him to win.

正：It’s probable that he will win.

若將句中的 probable 改為 possible 則是正確的。

■記住：要表示類似意思 probable 通常使用的句型是：It’s probable that-clause. 如：

Is it probable that he will come today? 他今天很可能來嗎?

It’s probable that we’ll be a little late. 我們很可能會稍微晚一點兒到。

It is highly probable that there exist any number of systems resembling our own solar system. 與我們自己的太陽系類似的星系，很可能還有許許多多。

■be probable 與 probably 的換用：

It’s probable that he’ll come today.

＝He’ll probably come today. 今天他大概會來。

It’s probable that she’ll be in a bad temper.

＝She’ll probably be in a bad temper. 她很可能會發脾氣。
