go on后接不定式與接動名詞

■go on to do sth 的意思是：做完某事后接著做另一事。其中的不定式為目的狀語。如：

He went on to show us how to do it. 他接著又教我們如何做。

The minister went on to talk about foreign policy. 部長接著就談外交政策。

Go on to do the other exercises after you have finished this one. 做完這個練習后， 請接著做其它的練習。

After approving the agenda, we went on to discuss finance. 通過了議事日程后，我們接著討論財政問題。

He began by showing us where the island was and went on to tell us about its climate. 他先給我們指出那個島的位置，接著就講起島上的氣候來。

She stopped talking about her illness and went on to tell us about all her other problems. 她談了她的病，接著給我們談她的其他種種問題。

He began by describing the route and went on to tell us what the trip would probably cost.  他開始是描述這條路線，后來又告訴我們這次旅行可能要花多少錢。

■go on doing sth 的意思是：繼續(不停地)做正在做的事。如：

The minister went on talking for two hours. 部長一連談了兩個小時。

You can’t go on working all night without a rest. 你不能通宵工作而不休息。

We went on talking till after midnight. 我們繼續談話直到午夜以后。

You’ll crack up if you go on working so hard. 你繼續這樣拼命干下去，身體會吃不消的。

She went on talking about her illness until we all went to sleep. 她沒完沒了地說她的病，說得我們都睡著了。

There was no news; nevertheless we went on hoping. 盡管毫無消息，我們仍抱著希望。

He went on studying deep into the night. 他一直學習至深夜。

A line has to be drawn somewhere—I can’t go on lending you money. 事情總得有個分寸——我不能繼續借給你錢了。

If you go on drinking like this you’ll make yourself ill. 你這樣喝個沒完，要喝出毛病來的。
