陷阱8  混淆fish和chicken的不同用法

fish表示“魚”時，為可數名詞；chicken表示“小雞”時，也是可數名詞。此時fish的復數通常仍用fish，而chicken的復數則為chickens。如：

They caught several fish. 他們捉到幾條魚。

She is feeding the chickens. 她在喂小雞。

但是，當它們分別表示“魚肉”和“雞肉”時，則為不可數名詞。如：

Do you like fried chicken? 你喜歡吃炸雞肉嗎?

Will you have a little more fish? 你要不要再吃點魚?

陷阱9  混淆clothes與clothing的數

兩者均可表示衣服的統稱，但clothes是一個沒有單數形式的復數名詞（永遠是復數），而clothing則是一個沒有復數形式的單數名詞（永遠不可數）。如：

The clothes were frozen on the washing-line. 衣服在晾衣繩上凍住了。

Loose clothing gives you greater freedom of movement. 穿寬松的衣服就能活動自如。

比較而言，clothes的含義比較具體，而clothing的含義則比較抽象。如：

I changed my clothes. 我換了衣服。

Our clothing protects us against the cold. 我們的衣服可以御寒。

若不考慮其細微區別，兩者常可換用。如：

He spent a lot of money on clothes [clothing]. 他花了許多錢買衣服。
