臺灣語法學家賀立民先生也有下面這一段看法（請參見《賀氏英文文法全書》）：

對等連接詞所連接的部分不一定是單詞與單詞，短語與短語，從句與從句，也可能連接單詞與短語，單詞與從句，或短語與從句，但是文法作用必須相同，而且形式盡可能一致：

I’ll go immediately and by taxi.

and 連接的：“immediately”和“by taxi”，雖然一個是單詞，一個是短語，但兩者都作副詞用，修飾動詞go的。

My home offers me a feeling of security, warm, and love.*（*號意為不可接受）

of之后是“名詞+形容詞+名詞”，詞類不一致。

In my spare time, I enjoy taking care of my aquarium and to work on my stamp collection.*

taking（動名詞）+and+to work（不定式），形式不一致。

從賀先生的表述當中我們不難看出，他的看法是互相矛盾的，既然同意詞性并不需要完全一致，又怎樣去苛求形式（或結構）的一致呢？

我們再看葛傳椝先生在近20年前舉的另一個例子吧（請參見《英語慣用法詞典》）：

He is a very careful worker and unlikely to make the mistake again. 你能說這個例子在詞性上一致嗎？但是a very careful worker 和unlikely to make the mistake again確實在句中都是表語。

 牛津著名學者H.W.FOWLER在A Dictionary of English Usage中也有對平行結構的相關描述：

words placed between the both and the and are thereby declared not to be common to both members:

He was both against the government and the opposition is wrong, the right arrangement are:

(a) He was both against the government and against the opposition.

(b) He was against both the government and the opposition, preferably latter.

Fowler兄弟顯然是傳統英語語法的擁護者！

鑒于他們提出這個看法的時間是在1926年，自然無法反映當代英語的實際運用情況，我們再引一位英國著名英語語法及慣用法專家Michael Swan先生在Practical English Usage中的看法：

compare the following two sentences, the second is not exactly wrong, but many people would feel that the style was bad (at least in writing):

He plays not only the piano, but also the violin.

only + noun    also + noun

He not only plays the piano, but also the violin.

only + verb     also + noun

In a formal style, people are often careful to “balance”.

看來SWAN先生和上述一些慣用法專家的看法一樣，這種不平行只讓人覺得文體風格上的“不適”，但并不真的是錯誤。

我們身邊有很多重要的英語考試的評判標準，比如：高考英語，TOEFL英語，在某些問題上是根據規定英語語法學派的觀點制定的，并不能反映英語在當今的實際運用情況，我們用一段話來結束這個專題：

the non-parallel construction is common enough to pass almost unnoticed, the fact that is often does pass unnoticed is evidence that it creates no confusion or misunderstanding .Hall 1917 collected about 125 nonparallel constructions from more than 50authors, almost all literary. it is clear that constructions which are not precisely parallel are as much a part of standard English as those which are precisely parallel.
