11. hardware

hardware 本指“五金器具”，在計算機語言中指“硬件”，與“軟件”相對。如：

Our local hardware shop has shut down. 我們當地經營硬件的商店關閉了。

Software packages may need complete rewrites to match new hardware. 軟件包可能需要徹底改寫以適應新的硬件。

We’ve been having some technical problems with the new hardware. 我們的新硬件一直存在技術方面的問題。

12. icon

icon本指“偶像”“肖像”“圖符”“象征”等，在計算機語言中指“圖標”。如：

Click on the icon to open the file. 點擊該圖標打開文件。

Use the mouse to drag the icon to a new position. 用鼠標拖動圖標至新位置。

Clicking on the icon will take you back to the previous web page. 點擊該圖標可以返回到上一網頁。

13. Internet

為計算機專有語，意為“互聯網”“因特網”，總是大寫第一個字母，且習慣上要與定冠詞連用。如：

He is browsing the Internet. 他在上網瀏覽信息。

Do you have access to the Internet? 你能上因特網嗎？

We often search the Internet for information. 我們經常上互聯網搜索信息。

Teachers are increasingly conscious of the importance of the Internet. 老師們越來越意識到因特網的重要性。

We were able to get the information we needed from the Internet. 我們能夠從因特網上獲得所需的信息。

注：Internet 有時也可略成 Net。

14. keyboard

keyboard本指鋼琴、電子琴之類樂器的按鍵，在計算機語言中指“鍵盤”。如：

She ran her fingers along the keyboard. 她的手指在琴鍵上飛快地移動。

In an ideal world, you wouldn’t need to use a keyboard at all. 理想的情況是你根本不需要使用鍵盤。

Most computer users have never received any formal keyboard training. 大多數計算機用戶從沒有接受過正規的鍵盤(操作)訓練。

15. load

load 本指“裝載”“裝填”“擔負”“給(槍)裝子彈”等，在計算機語言中指“裝入”。如：

Load the program into the computer. 將程序裝入計算機。

A programmer loads software onto a computer. 程序編制員將軟件安裝到計算機上。

16. log

log 用作動詞本指“伐木”“記入(日志)”，但在計算機語言中指“登錄”“注冊”“進入”，通常用于 log in [on]（登錄進入計算機系統）和log off [out]（退出計算機系統）。如：

Try logging off and logging on again. 試著退出系統然后重新登錄。

Log out before switching the computer off. 在關計算機之前要退出系統。

若表示“登錄到……”，則用log on to…或log in to…。如：

You need to log on to your home page. 你需要登錄到首頁。

In order to log in to the system you have to type in a special password. 為了進入該系統，必須打入特殊的通行密碼。
